Arkadia is a large second-hand bookshop that trades in all kinds of books, art prints, coffee and tea. We offer space for tranquility and conversation, thought and expression.

Rent our unique bookshop space for private events!
200 m² across two floors, six rooms with a maximum capacity of 90 people. With a kitchenette, projector, pool table, and upright piano, Arkadia is the perfect setting for your special occasion.

Art

Ian Bourgeot is a self-taught artist who primarily works with ink on paper and digital mediums. His autobiographical pieces explore diverse themes, blending seriousness with humor, often reflected in their intriguing titles.

History

Arkadia opened on March 14th 2008, and has welcomed visitors from everywhere in the world, sold books in numerous languages and every possible field of interest, and hosted nearly two thousand events reflecting the intriguing variety on the bookshelves.

Ian & Liisa Bourgeot

Ian lived in the UK, Mexico, Guatemala, Malaysia, France, Tunisia and the USA before he settled in Finland and founded Arkadia in 2008. Some describe him as eccentric, but he staunchly believes he is quite the opposite.

Liisa is of ancient and proud Karelian and Päijät-Häme heritage. Aside from her assiduous work at the bookshop she is a scholar in Russian philosophy and intellectual history at Helsinki University.
